Running

Before the Run

It was 7:00 am Saturday and I had just downed some oatmeal and a glass of milk. I had gone to bed at 8 PM the night before so I was feeling pretty ready. I got in my car and rushed to the trail head. I was nervous and excited. I felt like I would take off the minute my feet hit the ground but I held myself back knowing that today I would be running 10 miles. The day was perfect and as I rubbed on some runners lube I could feel my heart starting to beat a little faster. Then we took off. As I kept running each mile I couldn't believe that this would be my first time running 10. It didn't seem hard enough but as we finished and looked at our time I just felt a rush of accomplishment. I had just ran 10 miles averaging 10 minutes per mile and the best part was that didn't feel like I was going to die. In celebration, shortly after the run, I went to the running store and bought a pair of new running shoes. I then went out with another friend and ran 4 more miles in them - the same day!!! I think that I was nuts that day because the energy just kept coming.

Wow! You are my hero. I've never been a runner (due to asthma) but decided it would be a great idea so I've started training for a wee 5k - which is HUGE to me. You give me something to look forward to. WOW is all I can say.

Jill...I started running in January and the goal was to be able to just finish a mile. Then I move to a 5k and so on. It is amazing what training and patience can help you accomplish. There is a group here is Bloomington called Women with Will and they are all ages, shapes, and sizes. They basically are a forum for women to work on athletic goal. Some of the 50-60yr old women in the group started walking and now they are running marathons so you can do it and keep the good work. Here is their website: http://www.bloomington.in.us/~triwomen/ check it out...maybe you could start something like this where you live...

That's awesome Juls! Congrats! I recently accomplished biking 50 miles - and that felt great - but by no means was I ready to go out later that day and bike another 25! You're an inspiration. Love the pics!
