I have a penchant for "carny" food: I love turkey thighs, elephant ears, greasy bricks of fries, lemonade with way to much sugar and more. So you can imagine how excited I was Friday to go to the county fair. The night before I went swimming, that morning I swam some more and weight trained afterward. So I felt like I deserved every calorie that was coming to me. I even had a healthy salad for lunch with fresh fruits and veggies for snacks all day. So when my husband called me at 3:30 pm to tell me it was pouring rain outside I began to panic "What! no carny food...but I have been waiting all week for this!"
We decided that if the monsoon ended by 5:00pm we would trump through the mud and enjoy the food, animals, and displays, but to my disappointment it continued. So with the look of defeat on my face I went home completely starving with my shattered carny food dreams. Instead we stayed the night in reading and my husband made some delicious salmon with a baked potatoes and broccoli on the side (this did not cool my let down mind you).

Saturday looked hopeful, there was no rain and on the lunch menu was my long awaited carny food. But not before we took a hike through McCormick's Creek. It was so worth it. I felt like we were in the forbidden forest and at any moment I would see a hippogriff through the trees. We hiked through this abandoned quarry full of poison ivy.
Stopped at this creek, which cuts into a rock face, to look at all the snails.
Walked up some very long and steep stairways.
And Ryan took this incredible picture which I like to call the "Birth of a Faerie". Truly magical.
After we finished our very humid hike we headed for the Fair. As we got there I noticed no one was at the gate to collect money for parking, the live stock was being packed away, and there were virtually no people anywhere. We drove through once and my heart sank as I noticed the food kiosks were closed.....ROAR, ARG, MIFF, AHHHH (Here is were I begin to turn into a monster). I declared "We are going to eat burgers and fries" in a shaken and angry voice. We then headed back to the other side of town and on the way we stopped and bought Ryan some badly needed tennis shoes and I got these 7 dollar (on clearance!!!) Rocket Dogs (Ryan picked the color and the I love them!)
After which we sat down at Scotty's and I enjoyed ever single bite of my potato wedges and swiss bacon burger!Once I was fed and the food monster within had calmed down we then went on a walk through down town and stopped at the game store, the used bookstore, and the cutest little toy shop. By now we both were slowing down so we quickly headed to the Asian food market and bought all things necessary for sushi the following day. Then we went home, took naps, and went out again to chaperon a youth church dance...Man it was a long day!

Sunday I got up early to go with my husband up to another church building for his calling. So I called one of my primary kids parents to see if they could sub for me that day. The conversation follows: "Hello Brother P. I was wondering if you could sub in my sunbeams class today? There should only be two 4 years olds today (one of which is your daughter) so it shouldn't be a big deal."
He responded "Aren't you giving a talk today?"
Surprised I said "Why yes I am, don't worry about subbing I will be there, bye"
AHH I had forgotten I was supposed to give a talk!!! With only 30 minutes before church I finished doing my hair, ate breakfast, looked up some scriptures and then my ride was at the door. It went well and was a little short but I couldn't believe that I had spaced it. Anyway my two girls in primary were absolutely funny and we had a blast learning about obedience to our Heavenly father. I ended up using my arm as a puppet because they couldn't focus when I was teaching. So my my hand (cleverly named "Mama Bird") taught some of the lesson with me. And my baby birds eagerly listened in fact one of my adorable little sunbeams told a joke...well she didn't her hand puppet (cleverly named "baby bird") did. It goes like this: "Why did the bracelet shrink?"...then I said "why?" her response "because the chair broke." I laughed so hard...It is amazing what a four year old comes up with...I still don't get the joke let me know if you do.
Once church was over I took a 3 hour nap! We got up and Ryan and I attempted to make California rolls (Nori-Maki Sushi). They turned out well and we enjoyed them with our friends. Then we played this really fun new game "Tsuro" and ate brownies. Wait...I am still not done we then had some new neighbors stop by with some yummy cookies and we all chatted. Now you can stop reading because I then went to bed! Thank goodness.

This is my favoritest post I've ever read! the "carny food" escapade, the forest, the faerie birth mushroom, the bracelet chair mama bird joke. I laughed so hard!
You are too sweet...I thought it was just a crazy weekend!
Juliana, you looks GREAT??? How much weight did you lose?
I agree with Ola, you are looking amazing! Your weekend sounds fun. I am so sorry you didn't get any "carny food" The corndogs are my favorite!
Oh...O love those corndogs...and thanks for the compliments but unfortunately I have not lost any weight all summer!!!! But the shape of my body is changing and I know I am toning muscle.
Wow! Sounds like a crazy weekend! Sorry to hear you didn't get any carny food - I did! We went to the MLK festival this weekend and Jed and I split an "Indian Taco" (totally bad for us, but goooo-ood). Wyatt got to go on his first Ferris Wheel, but didn't like being stopped at the top, and so we got off after only one time around. But then we took him down those tall slides they have, and on a couple kiddy rides, Daddy Jed won him a plush ducky, and we all went home happy :). Love the pictures of your hike!
Love.
