The day after Christmas we headed to Nauvoo, IL where the early Mormon Pioneers sought refuge from persecution, only to be expelled after the death of the Prophet Joseph Smith at Carthage Jail . It was so amazing to see what these believers in Christ accomplished in 6 years...They turned a swamped into a beautiful city that rivaled Chicago, at the time, only to abandon their homes and the work they had created. It was so powerful to walk on the streets they built, see how they lived, and attend the House of the Lord. This was a very special and fun part of our Christmas Vacation. After our visit to Carthage Jail we ate at Wendy's, and then we headed to our cabin to unload all of our gear. That evening we went to a play at the Cultural Hall it was wonderful!

That's so cool that you guys made that pilgrimage! Man, I have such an appetite to go traveling - I love reading about your little adventures. Especially around the holidays I always yearn to make the pilgrimage to Bethlehem. NPR has a correspondent go every year, and each time I want to go MORE! But I'm too much of a financial scaredy cat to spend even the $2 grand to go to North Carolina right now. Oh well. I know it benefits my family, so what can I do?

Yes, it was really amazing. SO, you are going to North Carolina?....must have details!
No, I missed my chance. Bill and Matt moved back after only 4 months in NC...
