Brazil - Day 3 - Explosion

Today Ryan was gone to the conference and I was left to myself. Oh...what to do. I slept in until 7:30am (Mind you that all year long I have been getting up at 6am) so it was heavenly to not be rushed out of bed. I put on my running clothes then off I went down the mosaic tiled sidewalks to Ipanema Beach where I enjoyed watching the surfers, volleyball players, families, and people relaxing as I ran. Once I reached the end of the beach, I turned around and ran all the way back and continued to Copacobana. It was a terrific 8 miles where I also got to see street performers playing harps, cool sand castles, and human statues covered in metalic paint. It was great. One hour well spent.

Natuarally when I got home I was starving, after eating the rest of my peanut butter MnM's I decided on an egg, cheese and tomato sandwich for lunch. I turned the gas burner on and placed the pan on the glass cover. You will need to remember glass cover as I continue. I then cut the tomato as the egg cooked. When it came time to flip the egg, I grabbed the pan and spatula and flipped the egg, but as I put the pan back down the glass cover EXPLODED!!!!!!!!!!! All over the kitchen. I screamed and I stepped on hot glass. WHAT HAPPENED????? Well, it was a gas stove with a decorative glass cover that you are supposed to remove -- Yep I deserve an idiot award. I felt so bad. As my friend Suz put it "there goes your security deposit." I spent the next 3 hours sweeping, talking in horrible spanish to my brazilian neighbor trying to call the owners about what had happened.

Don't worry. I only got a few cuts on my feet, really, my ego hurt worse. We did manage to make dinner at home. Note to self - glass covers ARE glass covers NOT stove tops.

whoops! Oh Juliana, you crack me up. I wish I could have run along that beach with you! But it would have taken me a LOT longer than one hour!

Poor Juls! That sounds like something I would do.

Broken/exploding glass is very frustrating to clean up. Hope your cuts aren't too bad!

I am so sorry! I would have made the same mistake. I hope your feet heal and you are able to enjoy your visit. I love your description of the people on your run. 8 miles - I am so impressed.
