I had been to his place many times. He had moved there in January after we were engaged. It was definitely a bachelor pad: bare walls, lawn chairs, and just shampoo in the shower. It wasn't soon after we married that pictures hung on the walls, the lawn chairs replaced with wood, and there was conditioner next to the shampoo. Some would think that I should have stopped but no -- I entered his wardrobe, spice rack, plastic storage tubs and more. Gone were the holy dragon shirts from high school, gone were the torn jeans and knickknacks. Yet, he did manage to keep the star wars stuff, a stamp collection, baseball cards, and more. Time passed on and he began to feel safe again....his stuff began to feel safe again. Then there was the move....
"Honey, I am not moving your books, they are scruffy and cheap." I grabbed for the peeled, paper book with a boy and his sword on it. GONE! Yep I won!! Gone were
his dragons, magic, orgiers, and maidens....Gone were the castles and more...they were of no use to him and who like fantasy anyways!
and together we would read in silence. A smile here and laugh there… it was fun. Soon we began to read out loud together. We started with the Belgariad by David Eddings and have continued since. Now our shelves are filling with fantasy, faeries, and tales to keep you wishing for knights and magic. How wonderful it is to become a part of these worlds and to share those moments with someone you love.

I can't believe Ryan let you do that! DH would positively bludgeon me if I tried. However, I am the one with the books that fill the wall. It is so nice to be able to return to a book like an old friend and disappear into it's pages. Wouldn't it be fun to have a book group? If time only permitted, right?
Love.
PLEASE post the list of books. . .I am just starting to get into the world of elves, kings, dragons, and dwarves (I'm reading Eragon and Eldest) but I am craving more. . . .
List! List! List! List! List!
Jess - I know I can't believe he let me do it either. But I have to admit the books were ratty! So now he get to get them all back in a nicer form. I think it would be awesome to start a book club and you can sign me up as soon as school is over!
Natasha- I read Eragon and wasn't too impressed. I was still fun to read but definately not my top. So here is the list of what I have been reading in fantasy land:
Melanie Rawn: Exiles series and Dragon Prince Series....Exiles was wonderful. you have to give it a bit but it gets good and I can't remember if there is bad stuff but I think there is a little "physical intamacy" (In both the series). Dragon prince was good but intense and a little too sexual but very good story and there is a second series Dragon Star.
David Eddings: the Belgariad and Mallorean Series--loved it, loved it, loved it... It may take awhile and gets a little repetative but stick with it all the way to the end...LOVED IT! Light reading
Robert Jordan: The Wheel of Time... I just started and I really love it. Can get lost in detail but the story is complex and good and evil aren't so black and white like in the Belgariad. I hope this helps.
I'm not regretting getting rid off most of Bryan's clothes from before we were married...
Thanks for the list... I might get into the books as well as it's my new goal for the New Year to read at least 1 book a month... :)
Ha! That won't be for awhile for me... But maybe on breaks...
Love.
Muahahaha so I have you all converted into the very geeks that you made fun of in high school! Isn't it great!
I must say that Terry Goodkind is another great author and writes very well as well as Terry Brooks who writes the Shannara Series, probably one of the most read fantasy series of all time as well as the more cheesy but still fun series, Kingdom for Sale, Sold!. The whole Dragonlance series is great and so is the Death Gate Cycle, both series written by Margaret Wiess and Tracy Hickman. Just so happens that Tracy Hickman is mormon too and lives in Chicago. Anyhow, I hope this helps since you all seem to be newcomers to the world of fantasy.
